Ingredients
  

Onion Rings Base

  • 2 large large onions Use sweet onions like Vidalia for best flavor.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with almond flour for a healthier version.
  • 2 large large eggs Whisked before use.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred) Panko gives the best crispy texture.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • as needed Cooking spray or olive oil spray Use for spraying the air fryer basket.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Peel the onions and slice them into about ¼-inch thick rings, carefully separating the rings.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs until fully combined.
  • Place the breadcrumbs in a third bowl.

Coating the Onion Rings

  • Dredge each onion ring in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  • Dip the floured onion rings in the beaten eggs, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  • Roll the egg-coated rings in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they stick.

Cooking

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and arrange the onion rings in a single layer, avoiding overcrowding.
  • Spray the tops of the onion rings with more cooking spray.
  • Cook in the air fryer for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Once cooked, remove the onion rings and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve with dipping sauces like spicy mayo, ketchup, or ranch dressing. Can be used as a topping for burgers or salads. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
