Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour Sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened At room temperature
  • 1.5 cups white sugar Plus 1/4 cup for rolling
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set this mixture aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 ½ cups of sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture, and stir until just combined. Don’t overmix.
  • Scoop tablespoons of dough and roll them into balls. Roll each ball in the extra sugar to coat.
  • Place the coated dough balls onto ungreased baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For softer cookies, avoid overmixing and consider chilling the dough for 30 minutes before rolling. You can customize flavors by adding citrus zests or chocolate chips.
