  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded peeled apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (such as pecans or walnuts)
  • 3/4 cup raisins

Glaze

  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking soda.
  • Add the white granulated sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, sour cream, buttermilk, and eggs. Mix well until smooth.
  • Carefully fold in the shredded apples.
  • Prepare a 9 x 5-inch bread pan by spraying it with cooking spray.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, ensuring it's evenly distributed.
  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, chopped nuts, and raisins for the apple pie swirl.
  • Spread this mixture over the top of the batter and swirl it gently with a knife.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 65 to 70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cooling and Glazing

  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before removing and cooling completely on a wire rack.
  • For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a small bowl. Drizzle over the cooled bread.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Pairs wonderfully with butter or cream cheese.
