  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup neutral oil canola or vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the applesauce, brown sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Gently mix the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Fold in any optional add-ins, being careful not to overmix.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Feel free to customize with nuts, dried fruit, or chocolate chips to make this bread your own.
