  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 2 cans navy beans (15 ounces each), drained and rinsed
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 ounces)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Add the diced onion and garlic to the skillet with the ground beef. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the drained navy beans, diced tomatoes, barbecue sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Add salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and chili powder if using. Mix well.
  • Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe baking dish.
  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the beans are bubbling and the sauce has thickened.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
