Ingredients
  

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup overripe mashed bananas (about 2 medium bananas)
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons semisweet chocolate chips for sprinkling

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9 x 9 x 2-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  • Mix in the flour and salt until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  • In a separate bowl, mash the overripe bananas and mix in baking powder.
  • Combine half of the brownie batter with the banana mixture.
  • Mix cocoa powder and chocolate chips into the remaining brownie batter until fully incorporated.
  • Layer half of the brownie batter in the prepared pan, then pour the banana mixture over it. Top with spoonfuls of the remaining brownie batter.
  • Swirl the mixtures together gently with a knife, then sprinkle with additional chocolate chips.
  • Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  • Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting into squares.
