  • 4 pieces ripe bananas Choose ripe but firm bananas.
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup banana liqueur Can substitute with rum.
  • Ice cream (vanilla or your choice) For serving.

Preparation

  • Choose ripe bananas and peel them. Slice the bananas in half lengthwise or cut them into thicker rounds.

Cooking

  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat until it begins to bubble.
  • Add the brown sugar and stir until it dissolves and creates a smooth mixture.
  • Sprinkle in the cinnamon and nutmeg, allowing the spices to blend into the sauce.
  • Carefully place the banana slices into the sauce, cooking for about 2-3 minutes while gently turning to coat them in the sauce.
  • Add the vanilla extract and banana liqueur, allowing the mixture to bubble vigorously.
  • Tilt the pan slightly and use a long lighter or match to ignite the sauce, creating a flambé effect. Be cautious during this process.
  • Once the flames subside, remove the skillet from the heat.

Serving

  • Serve the banana mixture over scoops of ice cream immediately.

Notes

For extra presentation, garnish with chopped nuts or fresh mint leaves. Store any leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator. To reheat, warm in a skillet over low heat until just heated through.
