Ingredients
  

For the filling

  • 1 lb ground beef Choose lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cup yellow onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cheese (optional, for filling) Consider adding different types of cheese.

For assembly and frying

  • 1 pack Goya Empanada dough (10 pieces) Pre-made dough can save time.
  • as needed cups cooking oil for frying Heat to 350°F before frying.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  • Add the diced onions and both bell peppers. Sauté until soft, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Drain any excess fat from the skillet.

Adding Seasonings

  • Sprinkle in cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper into the beef and vegetable mixture.
  • Stir to combine and allow the mixture to cook for an additional 2 minutes.

Assembling Empanadas

  • Lay an empanada dough disk on a clean surface. Spoon 2 to 3 tablespoons of beef filling into the center.
  • Add cheese if desired, then fold the dough over the filling and seal with a fork.

Frying Empanadas

  • Heat cooking oil in a deep skillet. Carefully place two empanadas at a time into the hot oil.
  • Fry for 1 to 2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Serving

  • Serve the empanadas with sides like salsa, salads, or guacamole.
