  • 1 cup chopped nuts (your choice) Use nuts like pecans, walnuts, or almonds

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 10-inch round cake pan.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg.
  • In a larger bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, blending well after each addition.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter and sugar mixture, alternating with the whole milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix only until just combined.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract, orange zest, chopped dried fruits, and nuts.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.

Serving

  • Slice the cake and serve plain, or dress it up with powdered sugar, glaze, or frosting.
  • Pair with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an added treat.
