Equipment

  • Large Skillet or Wok

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef (flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil (vegetable or canola)
  • Optional garnishes: sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Slice beef thinly against the grain. Optionally marinate in half the soy sauce for 15-30 minutes.
  • Blanch broccoli florets in salted boiling water for 1-2 minutes, then transfer to cold water to stop cooking.
  • Heat cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger; cook until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
  • Add beef and stir-fry until browned but not overcooked, about 2-3 minutes. Remove beef from pan and set aside.
  • Whisk together remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, beef broth, and cornstarch. Pour into the pan and cook, stirring until sauce thickens.
  • Return beef and broccoli to pan; toss to coat with sauce. Drizzle sesame oil on top and stir to combine.
  • Garnish with green onions and toasted sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately over steamed rice or grains.

Notes

This broccoli beef is versatile: swap beef for chicken or tofu, add vegetables like bell peppers, or adjust sauce to taste.
