Ingredients

For the wings

  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Light or dark brown sugar can be used.
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice Fresh or canned pineapple juice.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Use low-sodium soy sauce for a healthier option.
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder Or use fresh minced garlic if preferred.
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder Or use fresh minced onion if preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch For thickening the glaze.
  • 1 tablespoon water To mix with cornstarch for slurry.
  • to taste Chopped green onions For garnish, optional.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, pineapple juice, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well blended.
  • Add the chicken wings to the marinade, tossing gently until fully coated. Let marinate for at least 15 minutes or up to overnight for best results.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the marinated wings in a single layer.

Baking

  • Bake the wings in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, turning them halfway through for even cooking.
  • While wings are baking, mix cornstarch with water in a small bowl to create a slurry. In a saucepan, combine the remaining marinade and bring to a gentle simmer, then stir in the cornstarch slurry until thickened.
  • Once the wings are golden brown, remove them from the oven and brush with the thickened glaze.

Garnishing and Serving

  • Garnish with chopped green onions, if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

For extra crispy wings, consider broiling them for the last few minutes of cooking. Watch closely to avoid burning.
