Ingredients
  

For the Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Allow butter to soften at room temperature.
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar Light or dark brown sugar can be used.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract for best flavor.
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Sifted for a lighter cookie.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Essential for cookie lift.
  • 2 teaspoons hot water To activate the baking soda.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Mix of semi-sweet and dark chocolate recommended.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • In a separate small bowl, dissolve baking soda in hot water and then add to the mixture along with salt. Mix well.
  • Gradually add all-purpose flour, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix.
  • Fold in chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Baking

  • Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough onto ungreased baking pans, spaced about two inches apart.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden and centers are soft.
  • Let cookies sit on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool.

Notes

For crispy cookies, increase baking time by 1-2 minutes. Consider adding nuts or using different types of chocolate for variations.
