Ingredients
  

Cookie Base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs Add one at a time.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use the spoon-and-level method for measurement.
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Mix-ins

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter with the granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add in the vanilla extract.

Mixing Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula.

Baking

  • Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until edges are firm and centers are slightly soft.
  • Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.
