Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened At room temperature for best results
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Garnish

  • 3-4 tablespoons decorative sugar or icing For garnish
  • Sprinkles and edible decorations (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder and set aside.
  • In a separate, large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) until well combined.
  • Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Do not over-mix.
  • Roll the dough into small balls, about one tablespoon each, and place them on the baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  • Optional: Press a fork or fingers down on the dough to flatten slightly.
  • Sprinkle tops with decorative sugar or add your favorite sprinkles.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden.
  • Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Allow cookies to cool completely before storing in an airtight container. Can freeze for long-term storage. To keep cookies fresh, separate with parchment if storing different types.
