Ingredients
  

Main ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter Unsalted butter is preferred.
  • 1 cup Dark Brown Sugar Packed tightly.
  • 12 oz Chocolate Chips Semi-sweet or dark chocolate recommended.
  • 12 pieces Saltine Crackers Enough to cover the bottom of a 9x13 inch pan.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with foil, allowing overhang for easy removal later.
  • Lay a single layer of saltine crackers on the bottom of the lined pan.

Making the Toffee

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of dark brown sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a rolling boil.
  • Once boiling, let it cook for about 3 minutes while stirring until thick and glossy.
  • Carefully pour the bubbling toffee mixture over the layer of saltines, ensuring each cracker is covered.

Baking and Topping

  • Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 7 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle 12 oz. of chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
  • Let the chocolate sit for a few minutes to melt, then use a spatula to spread it evenly.
  • Add toppings such as crushed nuts or sprinkles if desired, pressing them into the melted chocolate.

Cooling and Serving

  • Refrigerate the pan for at least 2 hours to let the Christmas Crack cool and set.
  • Using the foil overhang, lift the toffee out of the pan, break into pieces, and enjoy!
