Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter Ensure fresh
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers Laid out in a single layer
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Can use semi-sweet or milk chocolate
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Optional, use your favorite nuts
  • to taste sea salt For sprinkling on top

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  • Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Making the Toffee

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring consistently until smooth and bubbly, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Pour the toffee evenly over the laid out saltine crackers and spread it gently with a spatula.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee layer and let sit for a few minutes to melt.
  • Once melted, spread the chocolate evenly using a spatula.
  • If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts and a light sprinkle of sea salt over the chocolate.
  • Allow to cool completely. Optionally, place in the refrigerator to speed up cooling.
  • Once set, break into pieces and store in an airtight container.

Notes
