Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is smooth and pale.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a cohesive dough forms.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  • Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes from the rolled dough and place them on ungreased baking sheets.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges turn lightly golden.

Cooling and Decorating

  • Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before decorating.
  • Decorate with icing and sprinkles as desired.
