Ingredients
  

For the bars

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (such as pecans or walnuts) Optional

For the frosting

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not over-mix; some lumps are fine.
  • Gently fold in the chopped nuts, if using.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  • Add dollops of cinnamon filling on top of the batter and swirl gently with a knife to create a marble effect.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Frosting

  • While the bars bake, prepare the frosting by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Allow the bars to cool for about 10 minutes after removing them from the oven, then drizzle the frosting over the top. Let them cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes
