  • 2 cups fresh cranberries Use fresh cranberries for best flavor.
  • 1 large orange, zested and juiced Choose firm and fragrant oranges.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust to taste if a sweeter marmalade is desired.
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon For added warmth.
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg For a spiced flavor.
  • 1/4 cup bourbon (optional) Add for a sophisticated twist.

Preparation

  • Prepare your workspace and gather all the ingredients. Sterilize your jars in advance.
  • In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the fresh cranberries, orange zest, and juice.
  • Add the sugar and water, stirring to dissolve the sugar.

Cooking

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Cook for 15-20 minutes until the cranberries pop, releasing their juices.
  • Continue cooking until the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency.
  • Stir in the ground cinnamon and nutmeg. If using bourbon, add it now.

Cooling and Storing

  • Remove the marmalade from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Pour the hot marmalade into sterilized jars, leaving some headspace, and seal tightly.
  • Refrigerate for immediate use or process in a water bath for long-term storage.
