Preparation

  • Start by ensuring that both the cream cheese and butter are at room temperature.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese and butter. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to beat the mixture until it is smooth.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing on low speed to prevent sugar from flying out.
  • Stir in the peppermint extract, and if desired, add food coloring for color.

Shaping and Setting

  • Shape the mixture into small balls or press it into molds.
  • Place the shaped mints onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Allow them to dry at room temperature for several hours until firm.

Storage

  • Store the dry mints in an airtight container. They can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, or freeze for longer storage.
