Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Make sure not to pack it down.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Helps cookies rise.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Room temperature for better mixing.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar More brown sugar contributes to chewiness.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature for better mixing.

Mix-ins

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips Can mix different types of chips.
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Optional, for added crunch.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate large bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the vanilla extract and eggs, beating well after each addition.
  • Gradually blend in the flour mixture until no dry flour remains.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.

Baking

  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
  • Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until edges are lightly golden and centers are slightly underbaked.
  • Allow cookies to rest for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking can improve texture. Store cookies in an airtight container and layer with parchment paper.
