  • 2 pounds beef stew meat Bone-in cuts like chuck roast are preferred for flavor.
  • 4 cups beef broth Serves as the flavorful base.
  • 3 medium carrots, sliced
  • 3 medium potatoes, diced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme Enhances flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce Adds umami flavor.

Preparation

  • Prepare your slow cooker by placing the beef stew meat in the base, spreading it evenly.
  • Pour in the beef broth, making sure the meat is fully submerged.
  • Add the sliced carrots, diced potatoes, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Stir gently to combine.
  • Sprinkle the dried thyme, salt, and black pepper over the top.
  • Drizzle the Worcestershire sauce over the mixture.

Cooking

  • Cover the crock pot with its lid. Cook on low for 7 to 8 hours or on high for 4 to 5 hours.
  • Check the tenderness of the beef; it should be fork-tender.
  • Allow the stew to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve with crusty bread or a fresh garden salad. For thicker broth, mix cornstarch with cold water and add during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
