Ingredients
  

Beef and Seasonings

  • 1.4 kg chuck roast A well-marbled cut that becomes tender in the slow cooker.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced For added flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme Can be adjusted based on preference.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper

Cooking Liquids

  • 295 ml beef consomme
  • 240 ml beef broth
  • 60 ml soy sauce
  • 60 ml Worcestershire sauce

Bread and Toppings

  • 6 crusty sandwich rolls Lightly toasted for best results.
  • 6 slices provolone cheese For adding a creamy texture.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Mix salt, black pepper, onion powder, and dried thyme in a small bowl.
  • Season the chuck roast generously with the spice blend.

Cooking

  • Place the seasoned roast in the slow cooker and add beef consomme, beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic.
  • Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 4 to 5 hours until the beef is fork-tender.
  • Once finished, shred the beef in the slow cooker with two forks allowing it to soak in the juices.

Assembly

  • Lightly toast the sandwich rolls until golden.
  • Fill each roll with shredded beef and top with a slice of provolone cheese.
  • Strain the cooking liquid into a bowl to serve as au jus for dipping.
