  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened Use room temperature butter for best results.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg Use room temperature egg.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange zest Fresh oranges give the best flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice Fresh oranges give the best flavor.

For Dusting

  • 0.5 cups powdered sugar For dusting after baking.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Mixing Ingredients

  • In a larger bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar using a mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice to the butter-sugar mixture and mix until well combined.
  • Gradually fold in the dry ingredient mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Baking

  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving at least 2 inches of space between each scoop.
  • Flatten the dough slightly with the palm of your hand.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown while the centers remain soft.
  • Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Finishing Touch

  • Dust the cooled cookies with powdered sugar before serving.
