Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature.
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Decoration Ingredients

  • to taste Food coloring For decorating.
  • to taste Royal icing or powdered sugar For decoration.
  • to taste Sprinkles and candy (optional) For decoration.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) to the butter and sugar mixture. Mix until thoroughly combined.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. The dough should be soft but not sticky.
  • Divide the dough into two equal parts, flatten each into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Once chilled, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out your desired shapes.
  • Place the cookies onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space between each.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are slightly golden. Allow cookies to cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Decoration

  • Once cooled, decorate with royal icing, food coloring, and sprinkles as desired.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze cookies in a single layer and transfer to a freezer-safe bag; they can last up to three months. Allow to thaw at room temperature before serving.
