  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • 1 cup tomato sauce You can substitute with barbecue sauce for BBQ Sloppy Joes.
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns Use hearty buns that can hold the filling.

Preparation

  • Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart for even cooking until no longer pink.
  • Add the diced onions and cook until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Drain excess fat from the skillet.
  • Transfer the beef and onion mixture to a slow cooker.
  • Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, brown sugar, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Stir everything together until well combined.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.

Serving

  • Once cooked, give the mixture a final stir and serve it generously over hamburger buns.
  • Optional toppings include cheese, pickles, or hot sauce.
