Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure it's softened, not melted.
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract Can be omitted or replaced with more vanilla extract.

Decoration

  • 3 to 4 tablespoons sugar for decoration To sprinkle on top before baking.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Stir to blend.
  • In a larger mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and white sugar until smooth and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Add in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, and mix until fully combined.
  • Gradually add the dry flour mixture into the butter-sugar mixture. Mix until just combined.
  • Scoop out rounded teaspoonfuls of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Flatten each ball slightly using the bottom of a glass and sprinkle with sugar.

Baking

  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  • Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For thicker cookies, chill the dough for about 30 minutes before baking. Keep an eye on your cookies as baking times may vary based on oven differences.
