Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg Freshly grated nutmeg is recommended for best flavor.

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup eggnog
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  • Beat in the egg, eggnog, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually incorporate the dry mixture into the wet mixture, stirring gently until the dough comes together.
  • If the dough feels too dry, add a splash more eggnog.

Baking

  • Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and roll it to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Cut shapes using cookie cutters and place them onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for about 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow cookies to cool on a wire rack before decorating.
