Ingredients
  

Fruits and Vegetables

  • 4 pieces ripe tomatoes Use ripe or heirloom tomatoes for best flavor.
  • 1 piece onion
  • 2 pieces jalapeño peppers Adjust spiciness according to preference.
  • 2 cloves garlic Peel and chop before mixing.
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro Chop roughly before adding.
  • 1 piece lime Juice of one lime required.

Spices

  • to taste salt Adjust according to preference.
  • to taste black pepper Adjust according to preference.

Preparation

  • Preheat your grill or broiler to medium-high heat.
  • Wash the tomatoes, onion, and jalapeños thoroughly. Cut the tomatoes in half and leave the onions and jalapeños whole.

Grilling

  • Place the tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños on the grill or under the broiler. Cook them, turning occasionally, until they are charred and softened, about 10-15 minutes.

Mixing

  • While the vegetables are cooling, peel the garlic cloves and roughly chop the cilantro.
  • Once the grilled vegetables have cooled, remove the skins from the tomatoes, if preferred.
  • Chop the grilled vegetables into small pieces.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped vegetables with the fresh cilantro, lime juice, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well mixed.
  • Taste the salsa and adjust the seasonings if needed.
  • Allow the salsa to sit for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld together before serving.

Notes

Store your fire roasted salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Consider freezing for longer storage.
