Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Wok

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger grated
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch for thickening
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 stalks green onions chopped
  • 1 optional bell pepper sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • Slice the beef thinly across the grain.
  • In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey (or brown sugar), rice vinegar, and grated ginger. Add minced garlic and mix well.
  • Place the beef in a bowl and pour the marinade over it. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for a stronger flavor.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the beef in a single layer and cook for 3-4 minutes, flipping halfway through until browned and cooked through.
  • Mix cornstarch with a bit of water, then add it to the pan to thicken the sauce. Stir for another minute until the sauce reaches your desired consistency.
  • Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds over the beef before serving.
