Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with lentils for a vegetarian option
  • 1 cup uncooked rice (white or brown) A filling component

Broth & Seasonings

  • 6 cups tomato broth (or vegetable broth) Use homemade or low-sodium for a healthier option
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adjust to taste
  • 2 teaspoons dried herbs (such as thyme or parsley) Adjust based on personal preference

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat a large pot over medium heat and add a splash of cooking oil.
  • Add diced onion, minced garlic, carrots, and celery. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.

Cooking

  • Add ground beef to the pot and brown for 6-8 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.
  • Incorporate chopped cabbage and uncooked rice, mixing well.
  • Pour in the tomato broth, covering all ingredients, and bring to a gentle boil.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and dried herbs. Adjust seasonings to taste.
  • Reduce heat, cover the pot, and simmer for about 30 minutes until cabbage and rice are tender.

Notes
