Homemade Gumdrops

- 1 cup granulated sugar Main sweetener for the gumdrops.
- 1/4 cup corn syrup Helps in achieving the chewy texture.
- 1/2 cup water Used for dissolving sugar and gelatin.
- 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin Provides the signature gumdrop chewiness.
- Flavor extracts (such as mint, lemon, or cherry) Customize your gumdrops' flavor.
- Food coloring (optional) Use to enhance the visual appeal.
- Powdered sugar for dusting Prevents gumdrops from sticking together.
Instructions
Preparation
- Mix the Ingredients: In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat over medium, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves.
- Bloom the Gelatin: In a small bowl, sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over 1/4 cup of water and let it bloom for 5 minutes.
- Combine Mixtures: When the sugar mixture boils, add the bloomed gelatin and stir until completely dissolved.
- Add Flavors and Colors: Remove from heat and divide into bowls. Add flavor extracts and food coloring, mixing well.
- Pour into a Dish: Grease an 8x8-inch dish and pour the flavored mixtures in, keeping colors separate if desired.
- Let it Set: Allow the mixture to set at room temperature for at least 4 hours.
- Cut into Shapes: Once set, cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters or a knife.
- Dust with Powdered Sugar: Dust finished gumdrops with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
- Store Properly: Store in an airtight container; they will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks.
