  • 1/2 cup soy sauce High-quality soy sauce recommended
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar Can substitute with apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Adds a rich flavor
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup Adjust for sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce or a pinch of red pepper flakes Customize spice level
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic Fresh garlic recommended
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger Fresh ginger recommended
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro Optional, for added flavor
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice Optional, to brighten the sauce

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  • Add the soy sauce and rice vinegar to your bowl.
  • Pour in the sesame oil to give the sauce a rich flavor.
  • Add in the honey or maple syrup to balance the saltiness.
  • Stir in your chosen chili sauce or red pepper flakes for some spice.
  • Add the minced garlic and ginger for a fresh kick.
  • If you like, add chopped cilantro for added flavor and texture.
  • Squeeze in lime juice to brighten the sauce.
  • Whisk all ingredients together until well combined.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as desired, adding more honey for sweetness or more chili sauce for heat.
  • Let the sauce sit for at least 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. For longer storage, freeze the sauce in ice cube trays and transfer to a freezer-safe bag.
