Ingredients
  

For the Shrimp

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined Medium to large size
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup cold water For the batter

For the Honey Garlic Sauce

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes Optional
  • Chopped green onions For garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Gradually whisk in the cold water until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.

Heating Oil

  • Pour enough oil into a deep frying pan to about 1½ to 2 inches deep and heat over medium heat to reach 350°F.
  • Test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter; it should sizzle and rise to the top when ready.

Frying Shrimp

  • Dip each shrimp into the batter, coating fully, and place into the hot oil without overcrowding.
  • Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove shrimp and drain on paper towels.

Making Sauce

  • In a saucepan, combine honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and optional red pepper flakes.
  • Heat until bubbly, stirring frequently to prevent burning the garlic.

Tossing and Serving

  • Once the sauce is bubbling, turn off the heat and toss the fried shrimp in the sauce until evenly coated.
  • Transfer to a serving platter and garnish with chopped green onions.
