For the Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional) Use walnuts or pecans for added crunch.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then pour in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing gently until combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using).

Baking

  • Drop rounded balls of cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each ball.
  • Bake for about 10-12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden brown and the center is soft.
  • Cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For best results, let butter and eggs come to room temperature before baking. Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can enhance flavor and texture. Experiment with different chocolate types or mix-ins for unique flavors.
