  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Should be at room temperature
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup Use high-quality syrup for best flavor
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, cream the softened butter until light and fluffy, then mix in buttermilk, maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, gently folding until no dry spots remain.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 to 30 minutes. Check doneness with a toothpick in the center.
  • Let cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Once cooled, slice the bars into squares or rectangles and enjoy.

Notes

To elevate presentation, drizzle with a maple glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, and maple syrup. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top for extra crunch. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or freeze for longer storage.
