Preparation

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the lean ground beef, minced ginger, and garlic. Cook until the beef is fully browned and crumbled, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  • In a small bowl, combine the low sodium soy sauce, brown sugar, and hoisin sauce. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely. Pour this sauce over the browned beef mixture in the skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Mix the water with the cornstarch in a small dish. Pour into the skillet, stirring until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.
  • Add red pepper flakes and black pepper to season. Toss in chopped green onions and stir to combine.
  • Serve over rice or noodles.
