  • 2 tablespoons cacao powder or cocoa powder Cacao provides a richer chocolate flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seed Adds nutritional benefits.
  • 2 cups unsweetened milk of your choice Common options are almond, oat, or coconut milk.
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Enhances the overall flavor.
  • 1-2 tablespoons pure maple syrup Optional for added sweetness.
  • 2 scoops chocolate protein powder Optional for a protein boost.
  • 1/2 cup ice Optional, for a frosty version.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Make sure your banana is frozen and cut into manageable chunks to help in blending.
  • If not already toasted, lightly roast hazelnuts in a dry skillet for 5-7 minutes until fragrant.

Blending

  • Add all ingredients into a high-speed blender, starting with the frozen banana.
  • Follow with toasted hazelnuts, cacao powder, ground flax seeds, milk, vanilla extract, optional maple syrup, and protein powder.
  • If desired, add ice for a frosty consistency.
  • Blend on high until creamy and smooth, scraping down the sides as needed.

Serving

  • Pour the smoothie into a glass or bowl.
  • Optional: Garnish with crushed hazelnuts or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
