Ingredients
  

For the Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Use the spoon-and-level method for accurate measurement.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Use room temperature butter for best results.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest Use fresh zest for vibrant flavor.
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice Avoid concentrated or bottled products.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Glaze (optional)

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar Whisk with milk to make the glaze.
  • 1 tablespoon milk Add more if needed for desired consistency.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg, then mix in the orange zest and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the orange juice, and mix until just combined.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Glazing (optional)

  • If using the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth and drizzle over the cooled cookies.

Notes
