Ingredients
  

For the cake

  • 1 box vanilla or white cake mix
  • 1 package orange gelatin
  • 1 cup boiling water For dissolving gelatin
  • 1 cup cold water For gelatin mixture
  • 1 cup orange sherbet For topping

For the whipped cream topping

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional garnish

  • to taste orange slices For garnish

Preparation

  • Preheat oven according to the cake mix package instructions. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • Prepare the cake batter as instructed on the cake mix box and pour into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes; check for doneness with a toothpick.
  • In another bowl, dissolve the orange gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water, then add 1 cup of cold water. Let it cool slightly.
  • Allow the baked cake to cool for about 10 minutes in the pan. Poke holes in the top with a fork.
  • Pour the cooled gelatin mixture over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes.
  • Let the cake cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

Topping and Serving

  • Whip together heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  • Spread the whipped cream mixture over the chilled cake.
  • Add scoops of orange sherbet on top and garnish with orange slices if desired.

Notes
