Ingredients
  

For the sandwich

  • 4 hoagie buns hoagie buns, split fresh hoagie buns
  • 1 tablespoon butter for sautéing shrimp
  • 1 pound uncooked shrimp (41-50 per pound), peeled and deveined for the main filling
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise for the creamy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice adds freshness
  • 4 teaspoons snipped fresh dill or 1-1/4 teaspoons dill weed for flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper seasoning
  • to taste Lettuce leaves and sliced tomato optional for topping

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Hollow out the bottoms of hoagie buns, leaving about half an inch of bread for structure.
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

Cooking

  • Add uncooked shrimp to the skillet and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes until their color turns pink.
  • In a separate bowl, combine mayonnaise, lemon juice, dill, salt, and pepper; stir until blended.
  • Once shrimp are cooked, toss them with the mayonnaise mixture until completely coated.

Assembly

  • Spoon the shrimp mixture evenly into the hollowed-out bun bottoms.
  • Optionally layer with lettuce leaves and sliced tomatoes before capping with bun tops.

Notes

Serve fresh with side dishes like potato chips or a light salad. For leftovers, store shrimp mixture separately from the buns to keep the bread fresh.
