Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni 1 box
  • ¼ cup butter For the cheese sauce
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour For the roux
  • ½ teaspoon salt Adjust to taste
  • to taste ground black pepper To season the sauce
  • 2 cups milk Whole milk recommended
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese Or other cheese varieties as desired

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and have them ready to go.

Cooking

  • Fill a large pot with water and add a generous amount of salt. Bring the water to a boil, then add the elbow macaroni. Cook for about 8 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add flour, salt, and pepper, stirring continuously for about 5 minutes until the mixture is smooth (roux).
  • Slowly pour in the milk while stirring. Cook and stir until the mixture thickens and bubbles, about 5 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to low, add the shredded Cheddar cheese, and stir until fully melted.
  • Gently fold the drained macaroni into the cheese sauce until well coated.
  • Serve hot, optionally garnished with additional cheese or parsley.
