  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped green bell pepper Can substitute with diced jalapeños for heat.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup Alternatively, use marinara sauce for an Italian twist.
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Biscuit Topping

  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese Use additional for garnish.
  • 2 cups biscuit mix
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in minced garlic, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well until combined, then let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • Spread the sloppy joe mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Biscuit Topping

  • In a medium bowl, combine biscuit mix, milk, melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley. Stir until just mixed to avoid overworking the dough.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit mixture over the sloppy joe layer, covering as much as possible.

Baking

  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the biscuit topping.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, then serve warm.
