Ingredients

  • 6 cups sliced apples (approx. 6-8 medium apples) Use a mix of sweet and tart apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.

For the topping

  • 1 cup rolled oats Can substitute with crushed granola for a different texture.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Adjust the sweetness according to preference.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour For gluten-free option, use gluten-free flour blend.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted Ensure it’s fully melted for the topping.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Additional spices like nutmeg or ginger can be added.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances the flavors of the topping.

Preparation

  • Slice the apples and remove their cores. Optionally, peel the apples before slicing for a smoother texture.

Layering

  • Place the sliced apples evenly at the bottom of the slow cooker.

Combine Topping Ingredients

  • In a bowl, mix rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, melted butter, ground cinnamon, and salt until crumbly.

Assemble

  • Spread the crumb mixture evenly over the sliced apples in the slow cooker.

Cooking

  • Cover and cook on low heat for about 4 to 6 hours, until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.

Serving

  • Gently stir the apple crisp before serving warm. Top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes
