Ingredients
  

For the Apple Filling

  • 6 apples, peeled and sliced Use any combination of tart and sweet apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji.

For the Oat Topping

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar Can adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour) To make this gluten-free, ensure to use certified gluten-free oats and flour.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted Can substitute with coconut oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Peel and slice the apples, then place them evenly in the slow cooker.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, brown sugar, all-purpose flour, melted butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the sliced apples in the slow cooker.

Cooking

  • Cover the slow cooker and set to cook on high for 2-3 hours or on low for 4-6 hours.
  • Check for doneness about 30 minutes before the suggested cooking time ends—the apples should be tender and the topping golden brown.

Serving

  • Allow the apple crisp to cool slightly before serving.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, and enjoy!
