Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 loaf loaf of bread (preferably day-old, cut into cubes) Make sure the bread is dried out to prevent mushiness.
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (melted) Use unsalted for better control over saltiness.
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 2 cups celery (diced)
  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth Adjust according to moisture preference.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs (lightly beaten)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cut your loaf of bread into even cubes. If the bread isn't day-old, let the cubes dry out for several hours or overnight.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, add in the diced onion and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until tender and fragrant.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the dried bread cubes with the sautéed onion and celery mixture. Stir in the chopped herbs, salt, black pepper, and beaten eggs.
  • Gradually pour in the chicken or vegetable broth while gently mixing everything to ensure the bread is well-coated.
  • Lightly grease your slow cooker, pour the mixture in, and spread it out evenly.
  • Cover the slow cooker and set it to low heat. Allow the stuffing to cook for about 4-6 hours.
  • Once cooked, use a fork to fluff up the stuffing before serving.
