  • 4 pieces chicken breasts Boneless and skinless preferred
  • 1 cup sour cream Can substitute with Greek yogurt
  • 1 packet onion soup mix Homemade mix can be substituted
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For searing chicken
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese Alternative cheeses can be used
  • ½ cup chopped green onions For topping
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Optional for topping
  • to garnish Fresh parsley

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream and onion soup mix until fully combined.
  • Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken breasts and sear for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Baking

  • Place the seared chicken in a baking dish.
  • Pour the sour cream mixture over the chicken, coating each piece evenly.
  • If using, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top for added crunch. Then top with grated cheddar cheese and chopped green onions.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, use boneless, skinless chicken thighs. You can also customize the sauce with garlic powder, paprika, or jalapeños. Allow chicken to rest before slicing for maximum juiciness.
