Ingredients
  

Tomato Sauce Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
  • 8 ounces ground beef
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 1-2 teaspoons salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup water (as needed) For sauce consistency
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced For freshness
  • 2 ounces freshly grated Parmesan Plus more for topping

Main Ingredients

  • 8 ounces dried spaghetti
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 16 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 8 slices sturdy sandwich bread (Sourdough is recommended)

Instructions
 

Prepare the Tomato Sauce

  • Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  • Sauté diced onion until light golden.
  • Add crushed garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds.
  • Incorporate ground beef and cook until browned.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes and adjust consistency with water.
  • Sprinkle in salt, cover, and let simmer on low for about one hour.
  • Stir in fresh basil before removing from heat.
  • Reserve 1/2 cup of sauce for dipping.

Cook the Spaghetti

  • In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil.
  • Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.
  • Drain spaghetti and toss with half the tomato sauce and freshly grated Parmesan.

Set Up Your Sandwiches

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread sauced spaghetti evenly on it.
  • Sprinkle additional Parmesan on top.

Create the Garlic Butter Spread

  • Whisk melted butter, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder in a small bowl.

Assemble Your Spaghetti Grilled Cheese

  • Cut spaghetti into sections fitting between slices of bread.
  • Brush one side of a slice of bread with garlic butter and add a layer of mozzarella.
  • Add a piece of spaghetti mixture and top with more mozzarella before placing another slice of bread on top.
  • Brush the exterior with garlic butter.

Cook Your Sandwiches

  • Heat a skillet over medium-low and place assembled sandwiches in the pan.
  • Cover with a lid and cook until bread is golden and crisp, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Flip the sandwiches and repeat until both sides are browned and cheese is melted.

Serve These Happy Bites

  • Slice the sandwiches for serving.
  • Dip in reserved marinara sauce before serving.
