Ingredients
  

For the shrimp

  • 1 pound raw jumbo shrimp (shells on and deveined) Look for fresh or high-quality frozen shrimp.

For the marinade

  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning Provides a zesty kick.
  • 3 tablespoons hot sauce Adjust based on your heat preference.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice Enhances flavor and helps marinate the shrimp.

For steaming

  • 1 cup water Water for steaming.

Preparation

  • Rinse the raw jumbo shrimp under cold water, then pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • In a large bowl, combine the Old Bay seasoning, hot sauce, and lemon juice. Stir until blended.
  • Add the rinsed shrimp to the bowl, tossing to coat evenly. Let them marinate for 10 minutes.

Cooking

  • Fill a pot with about one inch of water and bring to a boil.
  • Place the marinated shrimp in a single layer in the steamer basket and cover with a lid.
  • Steam the shrimp for 5 to 6 minutes or until they turn pink and opaque.

Serving

  • Remove the shrimp from the heat and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with fresh lemon wedges and herbs, if desired.

Notes

Storing steamed shrimp: Allow to cool completely, place in an airtight container, and refrigerate for up to 2 days. For freezing, freeze in a single layer before transferring to a bag. Store for up to 3 months.
