Preparation

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown the ground beef or turkey for about 5 to 7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  • Peel and dice the sweet potatoes into small cubes.

Combine Ingredients

  • Transfer the browned meat to a slow cooker. Add the diced sweet potatoes, black beans, and diced fire-roasted tomatoes with juice.
  • Sprinkle in smoked paprika, cumin, chili powder, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and stir to combine.

Cooking

  • Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for about 4 hours, or until the sweet potatoes are tender.

  • Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt, pepper, or chili powder if desired.
